Brittany and Baron’s sweet St. John’s Wedding | Huntsville, Alabama photographers

June 28, 2010

Brittany and Baron were married on May 28 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Madison, Alabama, with a reception at the Roundhouse (which is part of the historic Huntsville Depot) in Huntsville. This wedding was especially fun for us because several people we have known for years (including the groom!) were either in the party or in attendance, so it was also a mini-reunion!

After the ceremony, Brittany and Baron invited everyone to a super stylish reception at the Depot, which featured a special drink–The Brittini! Everyone danced like (awesome) fools and had a great time.

Thanks to Brittany and Baron for having us, and we wish you guys many more happy anniversaries!!

Melanie and Jonathan’s Constitution Village Wedding | Huntsville Alabama Wedding Photographers

June 22, 2010

Melanie and Jonathan were married exactly one month ago today, and as usual, we want to celebrate by blogging their wedding!

The wedding took place at the Constitution Village in Huntsville, Alabama. For those of you unfamiliar with the area (I had never been!), Constitution Village is part of the Early Works Museum complex–this also includes the Huntsville Depot and the Children’s Museum. Side-note from Ashley: I actually went to Constitution Village on a school field trip and had a blast! I’ve been obsessed with the place ever since. I don’t think the 4th grade me would have even thought that the future would hold the thrill to capture such a lovely wedding there!

Constitution Village is truly historical in that, according to the website, it is here that “Forty-four delegates of the constitutional convention gathered here in a vacant cabinet shop on July 5, 1819, to organize Alabama as the 22nd state. John Boardman’s print shop, Clement Comer Clay’s law office, the Federal Land Surveyor’s office, a post office and sheriff Stephen Neal’s residence surround that cabinet shop.” So, as you can tell, this is a pretty cool place to have a wedding!

The reception took place at the Summit at Big Spring Park, which is also in downtown Huntsville, and WAS a place that neither Ashley or I had been to before. This group definitely brought the funk, flavor, and FUN to the party, and it made for a pretty stellar post-wedding celebration.

Megan and Brent’s Old Town Engagement | Huntsville, Alabama photographers

June 14, 2010

Dear Internet: meet Megan and Brent!

Megan and Brent’s engagement session took place in the Old Town section of Huntsville. We literally spent most of our time on one single street (Pratt, for those of you that are Huntsville-savvy), as very nearly every local store and coffee shop on said street is fantastic. Ashley and I are both fans of all things local and off the beaten path, and Megan and Brent were pretty much down for anything we wanted to try.

The two brought along their gigantic rainbow umbrella, which has a sweet story to it–it was under this very umbrella that they were engaged! So check that out.

One of the store we stopped by was Five Point Books, which is where a certain plastic yellow-and-brown dinosaur roams a potted plant or two. Keep your eyes peeled!

We ended the session at a playground right across from Megan and Brent’s home, which was perfect for us–a dash of where-you-are, while-you-are is a key ingredient to a magical White Rabbit Studios engagement session.

These two birds were married on May 29 at the Workplay Theater in Birmingham, and their (awesome, music-and-fun heavy) wedding will most definitely be blogged later this month–I’m thinking sometime around that ever-sweet one month anniversary.

A White Wedding: Katie & Billy’s Mountaintop Marriage | Huntsville, Alabama Wedding Photography

June 8, 2010

As Billy Idol’s voice echoed through the trees that night exactly one month ago I (Ashley) smiled at what we were lucky enough to witness…and capture. I thought to myself “it was a nice day for a White(/Davis) wedding.” Anyone who was atop Burritt Mountain that day saw the magic of Katie and Billy’s wedding. Two souls coming together surrounded by their friends and family. The day started with a family-only ceremony inside the rustic, intimate chapel built in 1884. After the knots were tied and the kiss exchanged, it was an afternoon of music, fun, lawn games, friends, and love. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the afternoon celebrating and capturing Katie and Billy.

Features | White Rabbit Studios | Huntsville, AL Photography

May 26, 2010

We can’t say thank you enough to our clients – past, present, and future – for letting us capture such magical moments. We appreciate the artistic freedom we are given, as well as all the happy praises we receive. (This past Saturday we were told we are “such sunshiney and wonderful ladies” and the grins still haven’t left our faces).

In the big, wide world of wedding blogs we are happy to be among the talents featured on Style Me Pretty…and we couldn’t be more excited! Steven and Mary Lee’s wedding definitely deserves the feature. With all of the time, effort, and love they put into every last detail it’s wonderful to see their ideas on the front page!

We also loved getting to take a break from the heat when we saw Adrienne and Sammy’s snowy white wedding featured on Whimsical Wonderland Weddings. We can still hear the good tunes spinnin’!

Melanie’s downtown Huntsville bridal | Vintage Wedding Photography

May 24, 2010

Well, color us infatuated!

We received a very enthusiastic email from Melanie after she glimpsed Mary Lee’s bridal session in her Google Reader (psst..have you added us to YOURS yet?) which basically said she was VERY interested in a bridal session. We were thrilled, because, as you are about to see, Melanie is gor-geoooous (yes, you have to drag out the letters when you say it out loud). Plus, bridal sessions are our second favorite way (engagement sessions are first) to get to know the bride pre-wedding.

So, before I get weepy, here’s a big THANK YOU to…you!

Ashley & Andy: Four Years! | A Love Session | Huntsville, AL Photography

May 21, 2010

Yesterday marked the 4 year anniversary for me and Andy! I didn’t get a chance to work on the photo collages for this blog because I was busy finishing up our Four Year Playlist, which you can find/listen to right here on Hi-Fi Weddings. Andy and I decided to have some photos taken of us at our own home since that’s been such a labor of love for us. Thankfully Steph was available…and we now have such wonderful memories! From our homegrown fresh strawberries to some of our favorite vintage elements, this session truly captured who we are right now.

Wedding: Mary Lee + Steven | Vintage Birmingham Wedding Photography

May 17, 2010

Mary Lee and Steven were married exactly one month ago today–April 17–at the Aldridge Gardens in Birmingham! So we thought it would be fun to celebrate their one month anniversary with a blog post dedicated to them and their sweet wedding splendor (though internet-savvy blog followerss may have noticed the sneak peek we posted on Wedding Chicks yesterday).

The wedding was INCREDIBLY detail-heavy, and you can read more about each feature of the day below the images.

Groom’s Cake: Cindy Gaffin (mother of the groom!)–Carrot cake is typically the Gaffin family Christmas tradition, but Cindy made an exception this year since it is Steven’s absolute favorite. The tartan and crest are symbols from the family clan, MacFie.

Wedding Cake: Julie Hendrick of Sweet Magnolia (Birmingham). The cake was cut with a Marshalltown trowel, an iconic symbol within the archaeological community.

The bottles are from the couple’s own collection that was recently started because of Mary Lee’s interest in historical archaeology and Steven’s interest in glass blowing.

Bridal Gown: David’s Bridal (Birmingham)

Tuxedos: Mr. Burch Formalwear (Hoover).

Bridesmaids and Flower Girl Dresses: Susan Glass (mother of the bride). Susan also crocheted Mary Lee’s garter (a pattern from the 1800s) and embroidered her name and wedding date on her handkerchief and bridal gown. A locket holding photos of the bride’s grandmothers was wrapped around her bouquet. Mary Lee was named for her grandmothers Marion and Leona.

First Look Quilt: Mabel Lane Glass, a cousin of the bride’s paternal grandfather, at least 40 years ago.

Wooden Printing Blocks, Guestbook, and Earrings: Etsy

Get Away Car: 1952 Ford Customline which was provided by George Brasher, a long-time friend of the bride’s family.

Signpost: The signpost was made by the couple and the bride’s parents the weekend before the wedding. Steven and Mary Lee salvaged wood for the signs from an old abandoned property. Most of the pieces came from an old fence and the “Welcome” sign was part of a drawer. Steven cut the wood to point at one end and painted them with a lime whitewash. Steven, Mary Lee, and her mother painted the different signs with black oil paint.

Hairstyling: Debbie Hertzfeldt of The Hair Saloon (Huntsville). Debbie also styled Mary Lee’s hair for her bridal portraits.

Engagement Ring & Wedding Bands: Bromberg’s (Birmingham)

Floral Design: Andy Hopper (of Kathy G and Company)

Catering: Natalie Andrews (of Kathy G and Company)

Instrumental Guitarist: Paul Hicks

DJ: Chris “Fuzzy” Peters
