A cotton gin bridal AND a downtown engagement | Huntsville, Alabama lifestyle photography

July 23, 2010

We are a pair of lucky birds! When Beth and Chris booked us last summer, they opted for our wedding package that includes an engagement session and a bridal session, which means we got to hang with them pre-wedding twice (well, Beth twice and Chris once). We love getting to know our clients through photo sessions, and encourage multiple sessions (bridal, blush, engagement, etc.) before the big day. That way, when the wedding arrives, we’re all practically old friends.

Speaking of old friends, Beth and I (Stephanie) worked on the University of Alabama Huntsville’s newspaper, The Exponent, together! So we go back a few years. It was definitely fun to spend time with she and Chris, AND I think we were all very infatuated with the oodles of delicious light that abounded.

We shot the bridal session at the Limestone Co-op in our new favorite place, Belle Mina. Beth’s dad is actually in charge there, so we got to go all over the place and shoot to our heart’s content.

A few days later, we journeyed downtown for Beth and Chris’s engagement session at 9am! It’s a bit early for some, but makes for sweet, lovey-dovey photos. One of the best parts of the engagement session was that Beth and Chris did not stop laughing the entire time!

Jamie’s High School Portraits | Huntsville, Alabama photography

July 19, 2010

Graduating from high school is a gigantic milestone in the lives of many teens, and something that should definitely be documented and celebrated in every way possible! We were super intrigued when Jamie contacted us about high school senior portraits, as this was our first joint senior session together.

The four of us (we two, Jamie, and her mother) met downtown. We took a stroll around the city and picked a few spots, and the journeyed up the Parkway toward Alabama A&M, where we finished the session. I don’t think there are enough crazy positive words to describe how excited Ashley and I were when Jamie got out of the car in her blue dress–can you say “ALICE” loudly enough?

We were thrilled when we heard that Jamie loves her photos, and that they believe the session was a perfect way to encapsulate all that she is in this pivotal, wide-open period in her life. Jamie, we wish you all the best luck with your present and future endeavors.

If you have an interested teen, or ARE an interested teen, we definitely recommend a portrait session! These can’t go in the year book, but instead serve as a phenomenal way to remember your high school senior as he or she is in this transformative period of his or her life.

Brittany and Baron’s sweet St. John’s Wedding | Huntsville, Alabama photographers

June 28, 2010

Brittany and Baron were married on May 28 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Madison, Alabama, with a reception at the Roundhouse (which is part of the historic Huntsville Depot) in Huntsville. This wedding was especially fun for us because several people we have known for years (including the groom!) were either in the party or in attendance, so it was also a mini-reunion!

After the ceremony, Brittany and Baron invited everyone to a super stylish reception at the Depot, which featured a special drink–The Brittini! Everyone danced like (awesome) fools and had a great time.

Thanks to Brittany and Baron for having us, and we wish you guys many more happy anniversaries!!

Megan and Brent’s Old Town Engagement | Huntsville, Alabama photographers

June 14, 2010

Dear Internet: meet Megan and Brent!

Megan and Brent’s engagement session took place in the Old Town section of Huntsville. We literally spent most of our time on one single street (Pratt, for those of you that are Huntsville-savvy), as very nearly every local store and coffee shop on said street is fantastic. Ashley and I are both fans of all things local and off the beaten path, and Megan and Brent were pretty much down for anything we wanted to try.

The two brought along their gigantic rainbow umbrella, which has a sweet story to it–it was under this very umbrella that they were engaged! So check that out.

One of the store we stopped by was Five Point Books, which is where a certain plastic yellow-and-brown dinosaur roams a potted plant or two. Keep your eyes peeled!

We ended the session at a playground right across from Megan and Brent’s home, which was perfect for us–a dash of where-you-are, while-you-are is a key ingredient to a magical White Rabbit Studios engagement session.

These two birds were married on May 29 at the Workplay Theater in Birmingham, and their (awesome, music-and-fun heavy) wedding will most definitely be blogged later this month–I’m thinking sometime around that ever-sweet one month anniversary.

Huntsville Alabama Musician Photography | Amy Mccarley

May 31, 2010

We had the privilege of capturing Amy against the setting sun one evening…and we found the perfect places to illustrate the vision for her upcoming album release. Thanks Amy for letting us be a part of this, and we can’t wait to see it once it’s all packaged up! Hope you have loads of fun working on the project!

Melanie’s downtown Huntsville bridal | Vintage Wedding Photography

May 24, 2010

Well, color us infatuated!

We received a very enthusiastic email from Melanie after she glimpsed Mary Lee’s bridal session in her Google Reader (psst..have you added us to YOURS yet?) which basically said she was VERY interested in a bridal session. We were thrilled, because, as you are about to see, Melanie is gor-geoooous (yes, you have to drag out the letters when you say it out loud). Plus, bridal sessions are our second favorite way (engagement sessions are first) to get to know the bride pre-wedding.

We’re really excited and also incredibly thankful to ALL of our clients (past, present, and future), and all of the people we have met within the wedding industry, because everyone is so kind, thoughtful, and helpful. So, before I get weepy, here’s a big THANK YOU to…you!

Wedding: Mary Lee + Steven | Vintage Birmingham Wedding Photography

May 17, 2010

Mary Lee and Steven were married exactly one month ago today–April 17–at the Aldridge Gardens in Birmingham! So we thought it would be fun to celebrate their one month anniversary with a blog post dedicated to them and their sweet wedding splendor (though internet-savvy blog followerss may have noticed the sneak peek we posted on Wedding Chicks yesterday).

The wedding was INCREDIBLY detail-heavy, and you can read more about each feature of the day below the images.

Groom’s Cake: Cindy Gaffin (mother of the groom!)–Carrot cake is typically the Gaffin family Christmas tradition, but Cindy made an exception this year since it is Steven’s absolute favorite. The tartan and crest are symbols from the family clan, MacFie.

Wedding Cake: Julie Hendrick of Sweet Magnolia (Birmingham). The cake was cut with a Marshalltown trowel, an iconic symbol within the archaeological community.

The bottles are from the couple’s own collection that was recently started because of Mary Lee’s interest in historical archaeology and Steven’s interest in glass blowing.

Bridal Gown: David’s Bridal (Birmingham)

Tuxedos: Mr. Burch Formalwear (Hoover).

Bridesmaids and Flower Girl Dresses: Susan Glass (mother of the bride). Susan also crocheted Mary Lee’s garter (a pattern from the 1800s) and embroidered her name and wedding date on her handkerchief and bridal gown. A locket holding photos of the bride’s grandmothers was wrapped around her bouquet. Mary Lee was named for her grandmothers Marion and Leona.

First Look Quilt: Mabel Lane Glass, a cousin of the bride’s paternal grandfather, at least 40 years ago.

Wooden Printing Blocks, Guestbook, and Earrings: Etsy

Get Away Car: 1952 Ford Customline which was provided by George Brasher, a long-time friend of the bride’s family.

Signpost: The signpost was made by the couple and the bride’s parents the weekend before the wedding. Steven and Mary Lee salvaged wood for the signs from an old abandoned property. Most of the pieces came from an old fence and the “Welcome” sign was part of a drawer. Steven cut the wood to point at one end and painted them with a lime whitewash. Steven, Mary Lee, and her mother painted the different signs with black oil paint.

Hairstyling: Debbie Hertzfeldt of The Hair Saloon (Huntsville). Debbie also styled Mary Lee’s hair for her bridal portraits.

Engagement Ring & Wedding Bands: Bromberg’s (Birmingham)

Floral Design: Andy Hopper (of Kathy G and Company)

Catering: Natalie Andrews (of Kathy G and Company)

Instrumental Guitarist: Paul Hicks

DJ: Chris “Fuzzy” Peters

Mary Lee’s Vintage-inspired Bridal | Huntsville, Alabama Wedding Photography

May 8, 2010

Mary Lee! Oh, how we love you. We shot this bridal session a few weeks ago in downtown Huntsville. We started at Railroad Station Antiques and then moved to the historic Russel Erskine Hotel (the building has been turned into an apartment building).

Isn’t she GORGEOUS?! We think Mary Lee looks so much like Audrey Hepburn!

How classic is this shot? The ballroom at the Russel Erskine is absolutely breath-taking, and Mary Lee handled this piano like a pro!

If you’re a future bride debating about whether or not you should shoot a bridal session, I think that this session proves the answer is YES! ;)

Real Love: Tiffany and Tyler’s Schoolyard Afternoon

February 6, 2010

Where to begin? I have known Tiffany and Tyler for quite a few years, and met them independently of one another before they became a couple. Tiffany and I had Spanish together, and I met Tyler through my husband (I think, it could have also been a class). I was actually present at their courthouse wedding, after Tiffany called me that morning and asked if I could bring my self and my camera. I was thrilled to do so, seeing as my husband and I also eloped in a similar fast and madly-in-love fashion.

These two (and Nikki, their adopted greyhound, makes three!) were a true joy to shoot, and Ashley and I are so happy they chose us–they are the true quintessence of White Rabbit Studios! Fun, artistic, flirty, bright, and definitely a bit offbeat–all things we love. And, really, could we have asked for better sunshine? I think not.

Just like little girls and boys
Playing with their little toys
Seems like all they really were doing
Was waiting for you

It’s real love
Yes it’s real, yes it’s real love
It’s real, yes it’s real love…

We chose two different locations–first, the (unfortunately) soon-to-be-closed East Clinton Elementary School, and then we reconvened for a few quick, fun shots (and delicious gelato!) at the ever-fabulous Sam & Greg’s in downtown Huntsville.

From two same-letter couples (Sean & Stephanie, Andy & Ashley) to another–Huntsville will miss you two.

Three peas in a pod, with plenty of room for all! | Huntsville, Alabama family photography

December 17, 2009

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Huntsville recently held an auction, and we volunteered a portrait session as one of the prizes. Happily, it was snapped up by an awesome family!

We’ve said it before, but when it comes to family sessions, nothing beats shooting at the home of the family! Everyone is infinitely more relaxed and into the session, and I think it especially helps people who aren’t used to being photographed feel comfortable, and feel that they can truly be themselves and let their joy radiate through. This past Saturday’s session with Nancy, Becky, and their daughter Abby was yet another beautiful, love-filled experience.
