A cotton gin bridal AND a downtown engagement | Huntsville, Alabama lifestyle photography

July 23, 2010

We are a pair of lucky birds! When Beth and Chris booked us last summer, they opted for our wedding package that includes an engagement session and a bridal session, which means we got to hang with them pre-wedding twice (well, Beth twice and Chris once). We love getting to know our clients through photo sessions, and encourage multiple sessions (bridal, blush, engagement, etc.) before the big day. That way, when the wedding arrives, we’re all practically old friends.

Speaking of old friends, Beth and I (Stephanie) worked on the University of Alabama Huntsville’s newspaper, The Exponent, together! So we go back a few years. It was definitely fun to spend time with she and Chris, AND I think we were all very infatuated with the oodles of delicious light that abounded.

We shot the bridal session at the Limestone Co-op in our new favorite place, Belle Mina. Beth’s dad is actually in charge there, so we got to go all over the place and shoot to our heart’s content.

A few days later, we journeyed downtown for Beth and Chris’s engagement session at 9am! It’s a bit early for some, but makes for sweet, lovey-dovey photos. One of the best parts of the engagement session was that Beth and Chris did not stop laughing the entire time!

Jamie’s High School Portraits | Huntsville, Alabama photography

July 19, 2010

Graduating from high school is a gigantic milestone in the lives of many teens, and something that should definitely be documented and celebrated in every way possible! We were super intrigued when Jamie contacted us about high school senior portraits, as this was our first joint senior session together.

The four of us (we two, Jamie, and her mother) met downtown. We took a stroll around the city and picked a few spots, and the journeyed up the Parkway toward Alabama A&M, where we finished the session. I don’t think there are enough crazy positive words to describe how excited Ashley and I were when Jamie got out of the car in her blue dress–can you say “ALICE” loudly enough?

We were thrilled when we heard that Jamie loves her photos, and that they believe the session was a perfect way to encapsulate all that she is in this pivotal, wide-open period in her life. Jamie, we wish you all the best luck with your present and future endeavors.

If you have an interested teen, or ARE an interested teen, we definitely recommend a portrait session! These can’t go in the year book, but instead serve as a phenomenal way to remember your high school senior as he or she is in this transformative period of his or her life.

Huntsville musicians Phil Weaver and Emily Jones | Huntsville, Alabama photography

July 12, 2010

Ashley and I were both thrilled with Phil Weaver* contacted us about a second portrait session (you might remember the first that Ashley shot of Phil and Ingrid in February). This time, he and fellow Huntsville guitarist Emily Jones, who comprise the guitar duo Zapatos Perdidos, met us on top of Monte Sano for a delightful afternoon session.

Both Phil and Emily are active in the Huntsville community, which is something we love to see! These two were toting some pretty impressive musical equipment, and we ended up learning quite a bit about guitars during our session. The Japanese Tea House on the mountain was a perfect place to accentuate Emily’s grace and Phil’s nature.

Fun side note: we actually saw Phil a few weeks later, while he was playing guitar at Melanie and Jonathan’s wedding! We hope to see these two, either in front of our cameras or performing around town, many more times in the future!

April and David’s Starlit SoirĂ©e | Bella Mina, Alabama wedding photography

July 5, 2010

April and David were married on June 5 at Mitchell Plantation in Bella Mina, Alabama. For those of you unfamiliar with the area, Belle Mina is a quaint little town sweetly tucked away between Decatur and Madison. Every time someone said “Mitchell Plantation”, I kept thinking of the author of Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell! The house isn’t quite as impressive as Tara, but it is located on a 450 acre cotton plantation.

April and David tried something we don’t often see at weddings–they held their outdoor ceremony and reception at night! The two opted not to see one another before the exchanging of vows, so we spent our time pre-wedding shooting the individuals and groups (groomsmen and bridesmaids), and also dodging a pretty serious (and random!) rain shower. Luckily, the rain cleared up before guests were scheduled to arrive, and everyone got to glimpse a rainbow.

Inspired by… | Inspiration Board #1 | Huntsville, Alabama photographers

July 2, 2010

As photographers, and human beings in general, Ashley and I are inspired by various people, images, thoughts, quotes, and basically anything on a regular basis. I can’t even remember the last time I DIDN’T automatically picture in my mind’s eye how I would frame a shot–this happens every single day! I can be at the grocery store, outside at a park, or just walk into the room to see my husband reading to our son, and I frame potential shots.

We thought it would be fun for you to get a glimpse into what each of us are inspired by on a daily basis. This is always revolving and growing, so there will probably be many more inspiration boards in the future! This one is Stephanie’s.

Some background:

  • There are two Francoise Hardy album covers because she is my current artistic muse! I love her music, style, and pretty much everything. Both of these are shots that I am definitely inspired by every single time we shoot a session.
  • The ocean is another HUGE source of inspiration for me. I am deeply moved by and in awe of its power, and have always loved the possibilities of infinite dreams that the ocean facilitates. One of my favorite memories is waking up at 5 in the morning to watch the ocean with my husband and son.
  • Color is another huge draw for me. I love finding huge splashes of it in random locations. I love when clients are wearing bold stripes and crazy prints, and I love gigantic walls painted in an intense hue. I also love blending slight (very!) vintage tones with color, which I think is beautifully demonstrated in some of these photos.
  • Most of all, I love FUN. Fun is such a great concept, because it means something different to everyone who says or thinks it. I think the shot of the bride and groom by a VW van is fun. The shot of the 3 people on the beach jumping is fun, and so it the shot of flower buttons. I love joy and laughter and everything associated with the idea of fun times.

Brittany and Baron’s sweet St. John’s Wedding | Huntsville, Alabama photographers

    June 28, 2010

Brittany and Baron were married on May 28 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Madison, Alabama, with a reception at the Roundhouse (which is part of the historic Huntsville Depot) in Huntsville. This wedding was especially fun for us because several people we have known for years (including the groom!) were either in the party or in attendance, so it was also a mini-reunion!

After the ceremony, Brittany and Baron invited everyone to a super stylish reception at the Depot, which featured a special drink–The Brittini! Everyone danced like (awesome) fools and had a great time.

Thanks to Brittany and Baron for having us, and we wish you guys many more happy anniversaries!!

Melanie and Jonathan’s Constitution Village Wedding | Huntsville Alabama Wedding Photographers

    June 22, 2010

Melanie and Jonathan were married exactly one month ago today, and as usual, we want to celebrate by blogging their wedding!

The wedding took place at the Constitution Village in Huntsville, Alabama. For those of you unfamiliar with the area (I had never been!), Constitution Village is part of the Early Works Museum complex–this also includes the Huntsville Depot and the Children’s Museum. Side-note from Ashley: I actually went to Constitution Village on a school field trip and had a blast! I’ve been obsessed with the place ever since. I don’t think the 4th grade me would have even thought that the future would hold the thrill to capture such a lovely wedding there!

Constitution Village is truly historical in that, according to the website, it is here that “Forty-four delegates of the constitutional convention gathered here in a vacant cabinet shop on July 5, 1819, to organize Alabama as the 22nd state. John Boardman’s print shop, Clement Comer Clay’s law office, the Federal Land Surveyor’s office, a post office and sheriff Stephen Neal’s residence surround that cabinet shop.” So, as you can tell, this is a pretty cool place to have a wedding!

The reception took place at the Summit at Big Spring Park, which is also in downtown Huntsville, and WAS a place that neither Ashley or I had been to before. This group definitely brought the funk, flavor, and FUN to the party, and it made for a pretty stellar post-wedding celebration.

Megan and Brent’s Old Town Engagement | Huntsville, Alabama photographers

    June 14, 2010

Dear Internet: meet Megan and Brent!

Megan and Brent’s engagement session took place in the Old Town section of Huntsville. We literally spent most of our time on one single street (Pratt, for those of you that are Huntsville-savvy), as very nearly every local store and coffee shop on said street is fantastic. Ashley and I are both fans of all things local and off the beaten path, and Megan and Brent were pretty much down for anything we wanted to try.

The two brought along their gigantic rainbow umbrella, which has a sweet story to it–it was under this very umbrella that they were engaged! So check that out.

One of the store we stopped by was Five Point Books, which is where a certain plastic yellow-and-brown dinosaur roams a potted plant or two. Keep your eyes peeled!

    meganbrent1
    meganbrent2

We ended the session at a playground right across from Megan and Brent’s home, which was perfect for us–a dash of where-you-are, while-you-are is a key ingredient to a magical White Rabbit Studios engagement session.

These two birds were married on May 29 at the Workplay Theater in Birmingham, and their (awesome, music-and-fun heavy) wedding will most definitely be blogged later this month–I’m thinking sometime around that ever-sweet one month anniversary.

Mary Lee’s Vintage-inspired Bridal | Huntsville, Alabama Wedding Photography

    May 8, 2010

Mary Lee! Oh, how we love you. We shot this bridal session a few weeks ago in downtown Huntsville. We started at Railroad Station Antiques and then moved to the historic Russel Erskine Hotel (the building has been turned into an apartment building).

Isn’t she GORGEOUS?! We think Mary Lee looks so much like Audrey Hepburn!

How classic is this shot? The ballroom at the Russel Erskine is absolutely breath-taking, and Mary Lee handled this piano like a pro!

If you’re a future bride debating about whether or not you should shoot a bridal session, I think that this session proves the answer is YES! ;)
