So now that I’ve outed myself as a huge Star Wars fan, I have no problem sharing a few photos from our recent family (myself, husband, and son) trip to Orlando for Star Wars Celebration V.

If you’re not familiar with the Star Wars Celebrations, I’m a little lost as to how to accurately describe them to you. Basically, it’s an official event for everything related to Star Wars–stuff created by fans for fans. Everything you can think of is there–people in costumes, bands, parties, events, lectures, a kid’s play room…the list is endless. They hold celebrations every few years, so if you have a fellow Star Wars nerd in your life, I’d keep tabs on it!

As photographers, and human beings in general, Ashley and I are inspired by various people, images, thoughts, quotes, and basically anything on a regular basis. I can’t even remember the last time I DIDN’T automatically picture in my mind’s eye how I would frame a shot–this happens every single day! I can be at the grocery store, outside at a park, or just walk into the room to see my husband reading to our son, and I frame potential shots.

We thought it would be fun for you to get a glimpse into what each of us are inspired by on a daily basis. This is always revolving and growing, so there will probably be many more inspiration boards in the future! This one is Stephanie’s.

Some background:

*There are two Francoise Hardy album covers because she is my current artistic muse! I love her music, style, and pretty much everything. Both of these are shots that I am definitely inspired by every single time we shoot a session.

*The ocean is another HUGE source of inspiration for me. I am deeply moved by and in awe of its power, and have always loved the possibilities of infinite dreams that the ocean facilitates. One of my favorite memories is waking up at 5 in the morning to watch the ocean with my husband and son.

*Color is another huge draw for me. I love finding huge splashes of it in random locations. I love when clients are wearing bold stripes and crazy prints, and I love gigantic walls painted in an intense hue. I also love blending slight (very!) vintage tones with color, which I think is beautifully demonstrated in some of these photos.

*Most of all, I love FUN. Fun is such a great concept, because it means something different to everyone who says or thinks it. I think the shot of the bride and groom by a VW van is fun. The shot of the 3 people on the beach jumping is fun, and so it the shot of flower buttons. I love joy and laughter and everything associated with the idea of fun times.

Yesterday, my (Stephanie) son, Jasper, turns one year old. You might remember his three month and six month sessions, and if so, probably also remember that we’re definitely more interested in the quirkier side of family photography! So we met up with Ashley and went to two places–a plant nursery and a park–and had a lovely afternoon, if I do say so myself.

Being a mother is an experience that has profoundly shaped and changed me. I absolutely love my role as a mom, and love my little man to bits. SO: thank you to everyone who has, and does, love him deeply.

Ashley took several absolutely wonderful photos of us, and I wanted to share two that I think are particularly sweet:

Jasper, watching you grow and learn over these past 365 days has been nothing short phenomenal. You greet the days with wonder and excitement and allow everyone you come in contact with a glimpse of that wonderment. I’m thrilled to be able to know you Kalois and even more ecstatic to become closer as we all grow as friends, and as a business. So congrats Jasper on your first year of life on this planet and I hope you continue to shine on like the happy sunshiney sweet smiley special Smoosh that you are! And to all of the Kalois – thanks for always being so inspirational! xoxo

Thanks to Beth Norwood at WLRH (89.3 FM here in Huntsville) for having White Rabbit Studios come and discuss photography and other musings happening in our lives on her Friday Art Talk radio show. Beth and I (Ashley) have done Crash Boom Bang and Purgatory Lounge shows together…and we both have our home away from home at the beloved Flying Monkey located in Lowe Mill. It’s always a pleasure conversing with Beth, so many thanks to her for having us!
