You probably recall Dan and Susan’s maternity session at Lowe Mill from a few weeks ago (if not, here it is!), which we were very happy to shoot. Well, the time has come to meet fifteen-day-old (at the time of the session) Caroline, who is one of the sweetest babies we’ve met to date. She barely protested during the session, despite our many photography requests!

We look forward to seeing the whole family in another three months!

We recently met with Alanna and Chris for a very special photo session — these photos are part of the adoption process that they are beginning together. They told us they needed photos for a short photo book & a website that’s all about them, which perspective birth mothers will see while making their decision. These photos needed to represent the two of them as they are — a secure and loving couple looking for a baby — and also show their interests, such as running and playing ultimate frisbee.

To say that we are honored to be any part of this process is an understatement. It is truly beautiful to be at the beginning of a family’s growth from two to three, and we look forward to hopefully meeting the little one once he or she makes its way into the lives of Chris and Alanna.

You know what? I’m not going to hide it — sometimes, when a person inquires with us, Ashley and I totally Facebook them to see what we can learn. I think part of the reason we do this is that we usually end up hanging out with our clients several times after their sessions/weddings, and become real life friends with them, so we like to get an idea of who we’re about to meet. I’m bringing this up because as soon as we received Kim’s inquiry about a family session, we immediately looked her up and found her website, Miss Zoot, which made us even MORE excited to work with these five.

Ashley and I are both bloggers (Ashley writes Hi-Fi Weddings and the Vertical House blog, and I have Casa de Kaloi and edit Offbeat Mama.), so we were pumped about meeting another blogger in real life. Before I go further, I need to say it’s indescribably hilarious to walk into a house that you have seen online, meet kids who you have read about and never met, and then hang out with a family that you have learned about via the Internet. Totally wacky, totally awesome, totally crazy — kind of like this family!

And just in case the still photos weren’t enough, here’s a stop motion peek of how fun this fam is!

Alice, Donald, and nine-year-old Calvin might just be one of the more quirky, eclectic, and overall delightful and cool families we have worked with! Alice and Donald are expecting their as-yet-unnamed son in March. Ashley and I are more than excited that we not only shot their maternity session, but that the two have also asked us to be present at (and shoot, obviously) the birth of their baby!

This session was shot, (as most of our family sessions are), at the home of the family. Everything–from the yellow paint outside to the flaming red kitchen and black-and-white floor tile–about this house sings love! It was impossible for us to not be completely giddy the entire time we were shooting. The three are also incredibly laid back, which always makes for a pleasant session.

Aren’t ultrasound photos brilliant? I can remember our first ultrasound so clearly, and now we have a nine month old! Time truly flies.

One of Calvin’s jobs is the dishes, hence the wash cloth! :)

Do you recognize someone? John’s daughter (from the famed and beautiful Jane and John!), and John himself, are friends with the family.

These three snuggle in bed on the weekends and watch movies together, so we all decided this would, naturally, make for great photos.

We still have a few more sessions and a wedding from 2009 to blog about, so keep your eyes peeled! As always, thanks for visiting!

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Huntsville recently held an auction, and we volunteered a portrait session as one of the prizes. Happily, it was snapped up by an awesome family!

We’ve said it before, but when it comes to family sessions, nothing beats shooting at the home of the family! Everyone is infinitely more relaxed and into the session, and I think it especially helps people who aren’t used to being photographed feel comfortable, and feel that they can truly be themselves and let their joy radiate through. This past Saturday’s session with Nancy, Becky, and their daughter Abby was yet another beautiful, love-filled experience.

In other White Rabbit news, we have a new about page! We’ll be sporadically updating it and the blog with updates so you can get to know the three of us a little better, so keep an eye out!
