This Saturday (April 21st) my husband and I (along with every music lover) will celebrate Record Store Day at our shop! This worldwide event is now in it’s fifth year, and Vertical House Records has been a part of this awesome holiday since the beginning! While it’s incredible to be able to capture two people in love, this year I’m thanking the Universe for not having to turn anyone down for wedding coverage. You see, this is the first year I will be able to participate! Previously, there has always been a wonderful wedding to lure me away from celebrating. I think it’s a sign that I’ll be exactly where I should be this Saturday – providing our community with a place to gather on Record Store Day!

I was beyond thrilled when the Huntsville Times contacted me asking to do a story on Record Store Day and Vertical House Records. The writer and I thought it would be a wonderful idea to capture the people of Huntsville with one of their favorite records. Last Friday over 60 people came in to get their photo made! While the full story will be running in the Thursday GO! section of the paper, here are some of Huntsville’s finest with their vinyl du jour!

YOU GUYS! Perhaps you’ve already seen it on facebook, or you’ve already read the newspaper article (here’s an online version)…or if this is totally new to you – get ready! When Noel wants to push the envelope with her career, she goes above and beyond. She’s an artist, and hair is her medium. This time was no exception with the vibrant hues of Catherine’s rainbow ‘do!

Jennifer and Anthony are the cutest! After the initial introductions and pleasantries, they both informed us that they were simply not very photogenic, and therefore didn’t know how the session would go. We both just smiled goofily at each other and at them — this pair is clearly anything BUT not photogenic!

Candice had us meet her and her family at their 200-acre farm near Lacey’s Spring — and we are SO incredibly glad she did! The countryside drive was definitely worth it, as these photos were truly part of a unique experience. Her friends and family were so welcoming and we had a wonderful time meeting all of the horses! Candice was joined at her session by quite a few family horses, including Sugar Magnolia (yep, she’s named after the song!). Sugar and Candice are life-long friends (literally: they’re the same age), so we were honored to be able to capture their bond.

We also loved that Candice’s dress was a hand-made custom design! She gave the designer elements and ideas she wanted to incorporate (like a removable bottom piece that allowed for a shorter dress!) and it all came together SO beautifully, don’t you agree?!

It’s one thing to capture the merging of two love birds, or the growth of a family…but it’s an entirely different world beyond the laboratory doors. We had the privilege of capturing the scientists of Conversant Bio at work. Instead of an exchange of rings, we focused on the “feeding” of cells. It was surreal to witness first hand such a delicate and intricate part of science.
